Passover Plague Pool Fun

Passover Plague Pool Fun

Last year, we created a blog post, Celebrate Easter By Your Swimming Pool, that outlined our recommendations for how to make your backyard oasis the centerpiece of your time with family and friends over Easter.

This year, we’re focusing on how our Jewish friends can use their swimming pool to make Passover extra special. And, we’re going to do it 10 Plagues style. We’re including descriptions of some of the 10 Plagues from the Plagues of Egypt and A Deeper Look at the 10 Plagues.

Plague No. 1: Water to blood

Water Turned to Blood: Your swimming pool is the perfect place to make the first plague come to life! This Passover, turn your pool water red with red LED lights or dye!

Plague No. 2: Frogs

The Plague of Frogs: Float around your blood red water on a frog island to recognize the second plague.

“Frogs in the houses, frogs in the beds, frogs baked with the food in the ovens, frogs in the kneading troughs worked up with the flour; frogs with their monotonous croak, frogs with their cold slimy skins, everywhere–from morning to night, from night to morning–frogs.”

“Behold, I will smite all your territory with frogs … which shall go up and come into your house, into your bedroom, on your bed, into the houses of your servants, on your people, into your ovens, and into your kneading bowls” (Exodus 8:2-4).

This outbreak of frogs struck at the Egyptians’ pride in the ancient god Heqet, who was depicted as a woman with a frog’s head. She was a fertility goddess.

Plague No. 3: Lice

Let’s face it – lice aren’t too cute. So, why not get an inflatable that makes you think of lice without the ick factor?

“So the LORD said to Moses, ‘Say to Aaron, “Stretch out your rod, and strike the dust of the land, so that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt”’ … and it became lice on man and beast” (Exodus 8:16-17).

Plague No. 4: Flies

The Plague of Flies: We hope your swimming pool is CRYSTAL CLEAN with no real flies but you can… add some fun plastic party flies to stir things up!

God warned Pharaoh, “If you will not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and your servants, on your people and into your houses” (Exodus 8:21, italics in the original).

Plague No. 5: Pestilence

The Plague of Livestock: How about a cute cow toy that will squirt water for fun in the pool?

“Behold, the hand of the LORD will be on your cattle in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the oxen, and on the sheep—a very severe pestilence” (Exodus 9:3).

Plague No. 6: Boils

The Plague of Boils: This red competitor donut float will do the trick of making your pool look like it’s added some boils.

“So the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, ‘Take for yourselves handfuls of ashes from a furnace, and let Moses scatter it toward the heavens. … And it will become fine dust, … and it will cause boils that break out in sores on man and beast” (Exodus 9:8-9).

Plague No. 7: Hail

The Plague of Hail: Create an extra special pool experience with a floating swimming pool light reminiscent of hail (and without the headaches). On top of your red swimming pool, this will look extra cool!

“Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt—on man, on beast, and on every herb of the field’” (Exodus 9:22).

Plague No. 8: Locusts

The Plague of Locusts: Add some locust-looking pool toys to your Passover swimming pool. The question will be if you have enough kids to dive in and get every last one of these out of your pool. Or else, just toss in a few of these guys.

Then devouring swarms of locusts came up over the land from the eastern desert between the Nile and the Red Sea. They devoured every green thing left by the hail.

“If you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory” (Exodus 10:4).

Plague No. 9: Darkness

The Plague of Darkness:  As this holiday focuses on the kids, why not cover them in darkness with black beach towels? You’ll get them dried and out of the water while also experiencing Passover.

“Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, darkness which may even be felt’” (Exodus 10:21).

Plague No. 10: Firstborn

This plague makes each parent think about how much they love and cherish their children. Hold your babies close as you close out your 10 plague Passover swimming pool experience.

“Thus says the LORD: ‘About midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt; and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die’” (Exodus 11:4-5).
